What is the Microsoft .NET Framework?

The .NET Framework is a new component of Windows created by Microsoft. Tunguska requires the .NET libraries to run, so the .NET Framework must be installed on your machine in order for them to operate properly. In the future you will find more and more applications that use .NET, so installing it now will mean you will be ready for these other programs as well. Aside from installing it on your computer to enable these new applications, there is very little for you to do. .NET should not change the operation of your computer.

• Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP

• Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 requires Service Pack 6a.
• You must also be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or later for all installations of the .NET Framework. Install a recent version of Internet Explorer here.

Important: Make sure you have the latest service pack and critical updates for the version of Windows that you are running. To find recent security updates, visit Windows Update.

There are two ways to install the .NET Framework from the Microsoft website

Please choose the method that best suits your needs:

I use Internet Explorer.	I do NOT use Internet Explorer.
We recommend Windows Update	We recommend dotnetfx.exe
Load the Microsoft Windows Update Page. "Scan for Updates" then look for and install the .NET Framework from the recommended updates.	Download and run the .NET Framework Redistributable Package called (dotnetfx.exe) from this Microsoft page. Instructions on installing this package can be viewed here.

Once the .NET Framework is installed, the Tunguska installation can proceed normally.

• The .NET Framework is a 20MB+ component, so downloading over a dial-up connection is only recommended for the VERY patient.
